This image has been broken up into almost three layers by the different tones. By using darker colours in the foreground and lighter colours in the background, a certain amount of visual depth is created with the image. Alongside these three 'sections' created by tonal differences, it could be argued that the 'rule of thirds' could be applied. However this isn't as obvious as the three horizontal sections.
The viewer is initially drawn to the mountain as it's central and at eye level, and then later made aware of the surroundings. Although the mountain appears to be central, the image is framed openly as the base of the mountain is not seen by the viewer.
When looking at this image can see how art was moving in at the beggining of the 20th Century. this image looks influenced by cubism however cubist movement began a few years after this image was created. Overall a very interesting image.
